Gifts of Life - Family, Flowers,
and Friends in ESA

Each day is a gift. Whether you’re sixteen or sixty, I encourage each of you to have the courage to find the gift in each day. Go out of your way to appreciate the deserving things here before you: people who matter, places that will inevitably change, and circumstances that get rearranged all too easily.

Do more than stop and smell the flowers. Consider them a gift, search them out; plant new ones, send bouquets to the people you care about. Remember; there is more to appreciate in each day than we realize….

Years from now, the gift of optimism will be recognized if you don’t make the mistake of letting yesterday use up too much of today.

Time is a gift: Begin each day anew, with the thought of becoming the person you’d like to be. Set aside some time just for you…. to plan, to dream, to be honest with yourself about you. May you become better acquainted with the wonderful person you are.

Knowledge is a gift. Each day experience something new. Learn from the world and nature around you: from the words you read, the sounds you hear, the touches you feel and the faces you see. Even through the course of your daily life, search for a new perspective, lean towards understanding, and make the commonplace a wondrous place to be. Make it the gift of happiness…a happiness that lasts.

Think of the gift of loved ones and friends – be warmed by knowing they hold some very meaningful thoughts of you. May you appreciate the sunrises and smiles, along with the hardships and trials, that help to make you what you are each day.

I wish you the gift of intuition that lets you know how naturally joy comes to those who open their eyes wide enough to envision it. I wish you the gift of realization that doing for others is also doing for you.

I wish you the gift of being reminded that a sense of humor helps you to survive, and that even when everything goes wrong, it pays such nice dividends to simply be glad you’re a part of this moment in life. I wish you the simple gift of the pleasure to be alive.

Today think of the past only long enough to learn from it. Glance ahead to the future for the dream you hope to come true. Today is your gift, make it work....for you.

Today I wish you the gift of family, as much love as your heart can hold, as many flowers as your hands can carry and the greatest gift of life: friendship.

I look forward to spending this year experiencing with all of you the “Gifts of Life; Family, Flowers and Friends in ESA”

Carla
